Camp Mitchell is home to The Dick Johnston Children’s Camp (DJCC) for one week each year. The majority of kids who attend this week of camp would be considered “at risk”. They are young (8-12 years old), yet have already experienced significant trauma and loss. Each child has had at least one parent in prison and therefore lives with either the other parent or with grandparents, other family members, or a foster family. Most guardians tell us that they send their child to camp because they just want the child to know that he or she is not the only child with a parent who is in prison. Children from all over Arkansas are invited to participate for free, and many of these children would not otherwise have a summer camp experience.
Are you interested in becoming a Camp Partner for a child? Would you like to donate supplies such as art supplies or backpacks? Do you belong to a church or other group interested in writing letters to the kids during camp?
If you would like more information, or if you would be interested in having one of our speakers talk to your group about the camp, please do not hesitate to call!
