Children in Worship

IMG_2652.JPG

No person, of any age or ability, pays attention 100% to a liturgy. God desires the whole people of God to gather in worship, and that includes children. In particular the wiggly, giggly and easily distracted ones. Our 8:45 service is a family friendly service. Here are three tips for preparing your children and yourself for worship.

-Get ready! Be there early and get settled. This can be very hard, however it helps settle and prepare children for the experience of worship.

-Sit as close to the front of the nave as you can. A young child's zone of interest is generally what is within 10 yards. There is more light, more people doing interesting things and more to look at the closer you sit.

-Bring quiet things for busy hands. Children are terrific multitaskers and will experience what they need from the service even if they are coloring or knitting. Textured balls to move around, special paper and pencils, lacing toys for small children, even knitting or crochet work all keep hands satisfied to better engage the heart and mind.

Children's Chapel

During the Liturgy of the Word (the first half) at this service children ages 3 - 6 are welcome to choose to join the Children's Chapel. Children's chapel meets in the Green meditation chapel and includes prayers, music, movement. There is also Biblical storytelling that is accessible for our young school age children.
