What Does Heaven Mean to You?

How about summing that up in two paragraphs!?! Based upon discussions with co-workers over the years, I approached Revelations with great distrust and maybe a little fear. However, our EFM book talked about the presumed author, a monk banished to the island three past the one where they sent the regular crazy monks. It noted that not only great theologians but also literary giants had just shrugged their shoulders when asked to interpret Revelations. It is unlike anything I have read. It is a full, living color, juicy description of heaven, earth, God’s wrath and so much more.

Today’s reading describes heaven and it is beautiful. It isn’t what we think we know in this world. It is beyond what we as mortals can imagine. A friend once described a dream that she was in heaven and God told her he would show her everything. On a table, covered with a cloth, He lifted just a corner. She felt as if there were an earthquake and lights and sirens. It was sensory overload. She couldn’t handle it and woke up. But she was changed. Everyone who heard the dream was changed.

He is the “Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.” What an amazing statement. Maybe our monk wasn’t as crazy as they thought.
