Music Report

JACK CLEGHORN

The word of the year is: Demisemiseptcentennial. What a word for 175 years young! And what a year it has been. 2023 and the celebration of our 175th anniversary was quite the banner year in the musical life of St. Paul’s.

Words can not begin to describe my unending gratitude to every St. Paul’s chorister who gave so generously of their time and talent. Their passion and dedication are a blessing to us all.

2023 held an abundance of major works for Evensongs, concerts both choral and organ, our annual Requiem, not to mention the growth of both Choir Club and Handbells. The “progressive” 175th celebration with chamber orchestra and the Gjeilo Sunrise Mass was arguably one of most profound experiences of my life. The ability to make such music in celebration of a St. Paul’s and all she stands for is a testament of the deep and lasting impact found in her wake.

We continually look forward to the next mountain to climb and music to sing. It's hard to believe, but our Lenten Evensong series is just a few short weeks away, closely followed by the Friends of Music annual fundraiser, Fish Fryday on Friday, March 8th and our Good Friday concert on March 29. Beyond that, our Wells Cathedral residency is somehow just around the corner in 2025. Mark the dates now: July 12 - 21, 2025. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary trip; remember you don't have to sing to attend!

Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. It is a blessing to serve with you.
