Radical Faithfulness

AM Psalm 31 • PM Psalm 35
Deut. 5:1-22 • 2 Cor. 4:1-12 • Luke 16:10-17(18)

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” *

A thing as small as a single thought can shape our whole being. A solitary action contributes to a pattern behavior. What we think, what we say, what we do – is who we are. We can form, through wisely choosing our actions, the kind of person we are.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus urges us to practice faithfulness and honesty in all things. When we are faithful and honest in little, we can be trusted to be faithful and honest in much. When we choose to be unfaithful or dishonest in little it becomes easier to be faithful and dishonest in slightly larger ways until out of our control or much larger than we ever planned or anticipated. When we choose faithfulness, we become people of faithful character. When we choose honesty, we become people of honest character.

We have the choice to practice that which brings us closer to God. May we choose to serve the one who loves us with radical faithfulness and honesty.
