Just Like Jesus Said It Would Happen

In our gospel reading today, we get an interesting slice of the story before the last supper. Jesus sends Peter and John to make arrangements for the meal. According to the portrayals in art, they had to find a table that sat 26… (as they were all on one side of the table :)
Here’s what struck me about today’s reading. Jesus told his disciples to prepare the meal, and then shared with them step by step what they would do and what would happen. And it did. I find myself envious of this dynamic. How lovely would it be to have Jesus tell me exactly what my day will hold. It would take away the anxiety of what might happen (or go wrong), and would only require the faith that what Jesus says will come to pass. It would be easy to believe Jesus in person, right?
This challenges me to find faith in this dynamic. I may not have the luxury of having Jesus in person laying out my day, but that gives me the opportunity to have faith that even though I don’t know what my day will hold, it will all be according to God’s plan. I wonder if I was told what would happen, I would better appreciate the miracles I witness every day. I realize I have the opportunity to strive to embrace every moment as if Jesus told me it was going to happen. I think about the smile I would have when the seemingly impossible thing happens and it is just as Jesus said it would. Most importantly, it reminds me to live in awe and gratitude of the miracles I am given every day that we all-too-easily just consider to be daily life.
