Work It

AM Psalm 20, 21:1-7(8-14) • PM Psalm 110:1-5(6-7), 116, 117
Deut. 34:1-12 • Rom. 10:14-21 • Matt. 24:32-51

In the Gospel reading today Jesus asks:

‘Who then is the faithful and wise servant?’

And in our reading of Psalms at the end of the day we find an answer:

O Lord, I am your servant…
you have freed me from my bonds.
Psalm 116:14

IF I take that answer and make it my prayer today, I say to God:

You are my BOSS, I am your employee!
I am your personal assistant.
You got me out of my old job where I was a slave!
Now I work for YOU!
So what do you want me to do today?

I take a moment and imagine God answering that question in a clear and concise statement of action. I also imagine that I immediately go right out and do that action. (My imagination is wonderful sometimes.) I would be the faithful and wise servant Jesus was asking about! Jesus could be talking about me when he says:

‘...Blessed is that worker
Whom his master will find at work when he arrives.’

IF such a prayer gets me to take action then today is the day to pray it, so today is that day I can do it. There is certainly a LOT of work to be done.
