A Song, A Prayer

AM Psalm 137:1-6(7-9), 144; PM Psalm 104
2 Samuel 23:1-7,13-17; Acts 25:13-27; Mark 13:1-13

I find it a tiny wonder when I read a passage of scripture as if I have never seen it. The words jump off the page and strike me as brand new.

Today I read:

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live!

Has this always been hiding near the end of Psalm 104? Haven’t I read this Psalm? Of course I have but today this one verse feels like it’s been waiting just for me and now it’s peeking out, saying: READ ME!

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live!

I like it. I like verse 34. I can relate because I like to sing. I sing all the time, mostly with little kids (but not always.) We make a lot of noise. We sing simple songs and silly rhymes and chant and march and dance. I pretend that it’s all for the sake of gross motor development and literacy and socialization. Really, I’m just celebrating out loud my existence in this incredible universe— you know, praising God. My rhymes and chants aren’t as eloquent as this psalm but my prayer aligns with the psalmist:

May these words of mine please him,
I will rejoice in the Lord.

Can I get an Amen?
