Jesus speaks to the Pharisees

Psalm 25 • Psalm 9, 15
Job 12:1-6, 13-25 • Acts 11:19-30 • John 8:21-32

Jesus says to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Our current reality includes a world-wide pandemic, friends or family that have been affected by a silent virus or economic hardship, leaders are trying to make decisions for the many, and a looming election that is filled with uncertainty. Now, more than ever, it helps to be reminded and grounded in truth. And Jesus assures us that truth comes from His word.

One little reminder and a deep breath can help us through the many days of uncertainty. “Love your neighbor as yourself”, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself”, and “as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you”.  In the uncertain days ahead, may this collect sustain you.

God of the miraculous, who is not bound to the laws of this world you created, you sometimes bring us into situations and circumstances that we never thought possible. Give us faith to step out into these places we fear we will sink, trust in that your power and love will sustain us, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
