Divine Intersession or Karma

Psalm 97, 99, [100] • Psalm 94, [95]
Hab. 3:1-10(11-15)16-18 • James 3:1-12 • Luke 17:1-10

I adopted Presiding Bishop Curry’s recommendation to pray for divine positive change after the 2016 election. Each morning I prayed positively, as I am sure you did.

I asked to join the Lord in an effort to encourage America’s leadership be more uniting, positive, compassionate and empathetic. I saw little change or humanity in our leadership. It was all about power. I withdrew, thanks to Covid. I became fearful that we would endure another four years of darkness and daily vituperations.

Psalm 94 spoke to me this morning as I read and reread it. It was an answer to my puzzlement and prayers. Psalm 94 is a passionate request for intersession. It offers biblical confirmation in three verses that advices what to do when my prayers are answered:

11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

17 Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

To me this is mostly divine intersession and a little karma. Psalm 94 tells me, now is the time to work to help the needy, clean up the earth, be positive and gentle with others and to do good. I intend to follow the advice of my literary hero, Mark Twain. “Always do good. It will gratify some and absolutely confuse the rest.”
