Thursday, April 13, 2023
7:00 pm, Church

Presented by NWA Equality, The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will perform musical selections from “Considering Matthew Shepard” during an interfaith panel discussing the balance of religion with LGBTQ acceptance. This event takes place in the church and it is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, April 15 at 7:30 pm, The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum performs “Considering Matthew Shepard” by Craig Hella Johnson. Composed in 2016, "Considering Matthew Shepard" is a large musical work for mixed chorus and soloists, piano, guitar, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, bass, and percussion. The two concert chronicles the events surrounding the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998 using a fusion of American musical styles. There are difficult thematic moments, descriptions of the hate crime, and the use of a gay slur, but ultimately the work is about love and acceptance and the transcendence of Shepard’s legacy into a driving force for change.

Tickets are $20.00 for general admission and $10.00 for students & seniors. Tickets may be purchased here
