Theology on Tap will begin discussing a new book, Radical Optimism: Practical Spirituality in an Uncertain World (2nd edition) by Beatrice Bruteau.

Beatrice Bruteau (1930-2014) is not well known, but she was a giant pioneer in interspirituality and contemplative theology. Trained in science, mathematics, philosophy and religion, she explored bringing Christian, Buddhist and Hindu traditions into conversation. Bruteau suggests ways that we can come to know ourselves more authentically, recenter spiritual values in our lives, and find more optimism about the world.

Cynthia Bourgeault’s tribute to Dr. Bruteau can be found here: www.contemplative.org/a-tribute-to-beatrice-bruteau-by-cynthia-bourgeault

For May, we'll discuss the first four chapters (through p. 71 in the 2nd Edition):

1. Leisure
2. Stillness
3. Meditation
4. The Finite and the Infinite

Copies of the book are available in St. Paul’s bookstore.
