White Candles in the Advent Wreath

Several people have asked why the candles in the church’s Advent wreath are white this year. We mistakenly ordered a purple set instead of blue and could not get blue candles that match our altar in time. White candles were available, so we purchased them. You may be comforted to know that the Advent wreaths in many churches, including the National Cathedral and All Saints’ Chapel at Sewanee, use all white candles. Maybe next year we will be back to blue!
