Dear St. Paul’s:
I regret to inform you that, yet again, St. Paul’s will be closed tomorrow, February 2, because of winter weather and poor road conditions. As you have seen in recent announcements, St. Paul’s takes its lead from Fayetteville Public Schools, which has announced another AMI day tomorrow. For the safety of our parishioners, visitors, and staff, we will stay home again tomorrow.
Anytime the office is closed, we miss out on a number of things. Choir practice, Community Meals, Caring Friends, Bible studies, children and youth events, and other programs stop. Though we are all working from home, getting in touch with the office staff becomes more difficult. Collaboration among the staff dwindles. Interactions with visitors and guests are almost non-existent. As we learned during the pandemic, all of us have to work harder to stay connected, and some connections can't be maintained no matter how hard we try.
Thankfully, the weather is expected to get warmer in the next few days, and our time away from the office will end. In the meantime, think of ways you can take advantage of this change of pace. Consider saying Morning and Evening Prayer from home. Watch a recent sermon, adult forum class, or Tippy lecture on our YouTube channel. Sit quietly for 15 minutes and seek the steady, still presence of God. If you can do so safely, walk or drive to a nearby Little Free Pantry or Friendly Fridge and share some food with those in need.
As always, if you need pastoral care from the clergy, please call or email or text any of us. If you call the church office and navigate to my voicemail, you can get my cell phone number. I will continue to pray for you, and I hope you'll pray for me and all those who are stuck at home during this icy weather or, worse, experiencing a lack of shelter or dealing with extra food insecurity during these cold days.
Soon, we'll be back together. Until then, stay warm and safe.
Yours faithfully,
Evan
