Love & Faith

AM Psalm 88 • PM Psalm 91, 92
1 Macc. 1:41-63 • Rev. 19:11-16 • Matt. 16:13-20

As noted, there are two Psalms for this evening. Psalm 91 is a song of trust in God as protector. In this Psalm I am drawn to verses 14-16 in which God speaks in first person. The notations on these verses state that there are seven verbs depicting God’s protection:

Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.

When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honor them.

With long life I will satisfy them,
And show them my salvation.

It is comforting to know that all I have to do to receive comfort and protection from God is to love God, know God, and call to God.

In Psalm 92, I am drawn to the simple instruction on how to give thanks to God in verse 2:

...declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.

Sometimes I get way ahead of myself and lose time to tasks that would have been better spent in prayer on a given day. I am grateful to remember that this simple instruction is a way to begin and end each day in grateful prayer for how thankful I am for the love of God.
